About This Artwork

'The Magic of Light' is a three-panel original encaustic artwork, inspired by the landscapes of Canterbury and Otago, in New Zealand's southern alps. It shows a New Zealand Fantail, perching among the tussock grasses on a flowering harakeke (flax) plant as it watches for insects. I find the quality of light during the golden hour (the last hour before sunset) magical and inspiring, and I've tried to capture its soft, etheral beauty in this piece.
