Three-Panel Original Encaustic Artwork
About This Artwork
'I Dream of the Lake' is one of my favourite ever triptychs. In my work, one of my goals is to create depth, which helps me to foster a sense of feeling physically present in the wilderness. As I worked on this piece, burning layer upon layer of encaustic medium and raw pigments into one of my landscape photographs, I watched it transform in alchemistic blaze of fire and wax. When I stepped back from it, I knew I'd created something special. I especially like the wistfulness created by the yellowhammer flying into the scene, the softness of the cloudy sky reflected on the lake, and the dreaminess of the spring snow still visible on the pale blue and lilac mountains in the distance. I love it and I can picture it hanging in a beautiful interior, bringing peace, light and space into the room.
